Golddiggers

I spotted an article on the Sky News website that says men need to earn about £50,000 a year before most women consider them to be wealthy and successful. One in ten women have higher expectations, looking for a salary of more than £100,000! Greedy bitches. In contrast, us men think women on about £42,000 a year tick the wealthy and successful boxes (personally I thought it'd be lower, about £30-40k).

However, in reality, men take home an average of £1,490.80 a month (woohoo, I'm well above average) compared to women's £1,078.80.

Some 45% of women say they rate a healthy bank balance as their top priority when looking for a partner compared with 22% of men. They also expect men to have a large stash of ready money to fall back on - £24,000 on average. I've been saying for a while that women want security, a man with a house (and a mortgage) and a flash car and lots of savings. Which basically rules out most people in their 20s. Men expect their partner to squirreled away about £15,000. We're not so greedy. Perhaps because we know you've spent the rest of your money on nice clothes so you look good for us.

As so few men do earn £50k a year this survey can't be right. Maybe it is just a threshold? With women now earning much more in the workplace is this sort of thing even valid? Sure there will always be gold diggers from both sexes, but they would target a very specific market if you like.

Who the heck did they interview for this reasearch? It seems very odd. I guess I wont be telling any girls about my wealth (or lack of!) as obviously I want them to judge me on my charming personality! Looks like I am up poo creek then! lol

Sorry, but those women all sound cheap and grasping, and I disagree with your statement on what women want.

Women want a partnership. I would never ever go into a relationship where I put less in than I got out. I'd amend your statement to women wanting a man who has the capability to jointly afford a mortgage, a decent car, and a few savings to tide them over just in case things go bad. Asking for more than what you need is silly, imho. :)

You're not like most women ;)

As the great philosopher Jagger once wrote: You can't always get what you want. But if you try sometimes you just might find you get what you need.

I want to win the lottery, I don't think I will, but if someone wants to give me a 6-7 figure cheque, I'd happily take it over a £10 note.

The big problem with surveys is it depends on who you ask. I was saying to my mum last night that ALW keeps saving Helena on that Maria show on BBC1 because he thinks she would be suitable for the show, but for whatever reason is not being voted for. This is possibly because ALW knows what appeals to the type of people that will see the show, but the voters are the mainstream population that don't know their arse from their elbow (and probably won't even see the show, even though they may pick up the phone and vote).
