3DMark Vantage

I've finally installed my new graphics card and... wow! It's ridiculously fast and it's not that noisy (although it's hard to tell over the insane noise from my spare PSU (voltages are fine, but both of the fans have gone). I decided to give 3DMark Vantage okay. The framerates are perfectly acceptable (dropping down to 15fps at one point, but generally around 30-40fps.
Check me out! I can't wait for the next LAN party so I can show off my upgraded system.

Dude, nice as the card is, you were entirely accurate in stating in your earlier post that this is a non-necessary upgrade. Like you did, I have the 3870 and despite running a resolution of 1900 x 1280 I have still yet to drop the settings on any game off the top settings. I would be surprised if we really spot any difference other than a good drool at all the heatpipes!
I'll have to give Crysis another go. The framerates were too low for my liking with anything above Medium. Ideally the framerates should be able to match the refresh rate of my screen (I tend to enable vertical sync to prevent image tearing and making my card work harder than it needs to).
IIRC, CounterStrike: Source ran at 1680x1050 with everything on top settings at an impressive 246fps, so for some (most?) games we play it is a pointless upgrade.
On the plus side, my new fileserver (it's probably going to inherit the 3870 permanently) will make a fantastic gaming machine! :D I'm really impressed by how cool the quad core CPU is running too (Q8200).
