Men have become too concerned about political correctness to pay women simple compliments, according to a survey. Their concerns are backed by 65% of women who suspect there is always a motive behind a flattering remark from a work colleague or new acquaintance. While 89% of women loved to receive a compliment, 67% felt uncomfortable if it came from anybody other than their partner. Among those in long-term relationships, 63% of women said their partners paid them fewer compliments now than they did five years ago. Some 12% said no one had paid them a compliment in the past three months. Fewer than one in five women questioned (16%) received the recommended five compliments a day.

There's a recommended number of compliments? I think someone's having a laugh. And why should men compliment women if women rarely compliment men?

Sinister motive? Surely not! Speak to any woman who fell for or had a one night stand with a womaniser type and what do they tell you? "He complimented me a lot and made me feel special" Watching this sort of thing in action, it is so cheesily cringeworthy, but it seems to work. I obviously don't do it enough!

Rather than political correctness I would actually say it is a negative spin off of women's lib. Women want to be treated equally (fair enough), but men don't exactly equally compliment other men. The other example I can think of is the holding the door open for a woman. I am from the old school so I still do this, but damn so few women even acknowledge with a thank you etc. Ironically men are much better at that. So the message to women is you can have equal op and you can have old fashioned manners, but you need to reciprocate.
