Red Light

On the way to work this morning I noticed the little frost light on my car's dashboard was red. It's been almost permanently orange for the last week, I didn't even know it turns red (it's been a very mild winter). I haven't checked the manual yet, but seeing as it's lunchtime I did a search on Google and discovered that it looks like the light is orange when the outside temperature is 1-4 degrees C to warn of frost, and turns red when the outside temperature is 0 degrees C or below (to warn of ice). I knew it was cold this morning.

Looks like we might have snow (again): http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,70131-1250413,00.html
My car said 1.5 when I got into it to come back from work. It feels colder than that.
That red light is there to tell you two things 1) There is ice on the road and 2) There is a significant increase in probability that your fancy electrics are going to break down!

I was under the assumption that the orange light meant there was ice on the road, so I was already driving with more caution, perhaps I'll be a bit more reckless now (just kidding!). Normally when things are red it's serious (like the engine about to die, or the handbrake is on so there's no point trying to drive off).
