Damn, they called me and I foolishly answered. It wasn't their Cardiff based number, it was 01792 350023 (it seems they also use 01792 474700, after a search with Google).

They said my contract was due to run out, and I said I didn't think it was (actually, they might be right, as I got my new phone at the end of October last year). They asked when I got my upgrade, and I said I wasn't sure. They tried to ask me how long I'd had the phone (surely it's the same question?), I said I thought it was under a year ago (which, it turns out, is true) but then - clever me - pointed out that they should have records of when I got an upgrade and extended my contract. That was when she admitted that they weren't related to Vodafone, at which point I jumped in and asked "would my contract remain with Vodafone?" (knowing full well that they want to sign me up to 3) and she replied "no, but Vodafone is the most expensive network", and I said I wasn't interested. She then asked if I wasn't interested in saving money, and I said "it depends on who you call" and then said goodbye and hung up.

did you see that undercover programme about call centres? they buy your info off other call centres then ring you to try and sell you stuff or just steal your details. next time ask them how they got your details. last time i had a call trying to save me money, and they questioned why i didnt want to save money, i told them that i was stupidly rich and loved wasting money - they hung up

I hadn't, but I wish I had. I've heard they randomly call numbers within the reserved ranges, that way they can usualy guess which network you're currently on (unless you kept your number when you changed network), which helps fool you into handing over your details. Except I wouldn't hand over my bank details over the phone to what is essentally a perfect stranger. I'll have to remember the "stupidly rich" excuse for next time, perhaps when they next call me at work, and see if I can make the rest of the office laugh :)

I think some of the offers from 3 (and the other networks) can be quite competitive, depending on how you use your mobile, but I'd rather compare places myself, and probably buy it over the internet. I'd prefer to avoid using third parties.

forgot to log in - have you received an anonymous post? if not it's floating round space

Yes, I got it, you'd written:

i think it was dispatches - it was quite scary watching, makes you wanna put it all under the mattress!

Vodafone is the most expensive network huh? That honour actually goes to Orange and I would know as I have just switched from Orange to Vodafone. Anyway, cheapness does not necessarily mean better quality. Tell them you want a gold plated mobile with diamond buttons! lol

I mentioned wanting the K800i a while back, it seems they're going to do a limited edition silver version (not real silver, sadly) to tie in with the new James Bond movie (Casino Royale?), but I'm not sure if I like it yet, I think I'd prefer the black.

I've been with Vodafone for 6 years now and the only time I've really had any problems has been over the New Year when everyone texts everyone. Their customer support wasn't fantastic, but it was completely free, and they did try and talk me through all the steps I'd already taken, so it was comprehensive and helpful if I weren't so technical.

You usually get what you pay for, sometimes the cheapest isn't the best. Look how many unhappy TalkTalk and Bulldog customers there have been in the past. The alternative is they start off cheap and prices eventually shoot up.

PS I wish you'd make your logins slightly more persistant...

Sorry, I might do sometime. Perhaps I'll stop people from posting anonymous comments to avoid confusion. Anyway, I saw what you'd written:

01792 is a Swansea area code (you mentioned in your first post that they were based in Cardiff and Swansea... my country-men are cowboys ;) )

Jessica - classic. I'm going to use that one.
