A Bit Old

But I just came across this. Here are the top ten most stressful jobs, according to SkillSoft:

IT
Medicine/Caring Profession
Engineering
Sales and Marketing
Education
Finance
Human Resources
Operations
Production
Clerical

That's the conclusion of a probe of 3,000 "IT experts" carrried out by "online learning provider" SkillSoft, which reveals the staggering fact that "97 per cent of people working in IT claim to find their life at work stressful on a daily basis". Indeed, four-fifths of IT consultants "feel stressed before they even enter the workplace", while a quarter of the poor buggers "are under such enormous pressure to perform at work they have taken time off suffering with stress".

Sounds like our IT people at work. So stressed they still haven't got our external email working properly yet (one month and counting!). Staff abuse and pissup in a brewery comments have featured a lot.

People have very high expectations of us in IT, I'll say that. They don't realise how high.

Unfortunately ours have not been given enough money to do the job properly thus the inevitable happens - outdated server breaks down, takes over a month to get and install a new one.

As a cost cutting measure, we've got new A4 paper to use in the printers, except the printers don't like it and are frequently jamming. I have since resorted to taking home some paper and printing stuff off at home (also so I can get colour duplex), as I'm fed up of having to pull the printer apart and pull the offending sheets out. And the printer in the kitchen seems to be broken every other week. I did briefly think about accidentally breaking the printer the next time it jammed, but it turns out we inherited the printer from the old finance department, and we're not sure we'd get a replacement (especially with the cost cutting measures still in place).

why do you need a printer in the kitchen? Is this at work?

Yes, the printer is in the kitchen at work. It's keeping the photocopier company (perhaps it fancies it, or maybe they're having an affair?). I think they put it there to avoid taking up space in the office, and now the vending machines are gone they fill what would otherwise be a very big gap.

My printer sits in the corner of the lounge, next to the ADSL router.
